Emilio Pucci

Marquis, sportsman, politician, captain, designer – Emilio Pucci wore many hats. Born in 1914 to one of Florence’s best families, he was a swimmer, skier, fencer and racer. He was also politically active and served in the Italian Air Force during World War II. Pucci designed his first clothes during his years abroad in America, when he was studying at Reed College in Oregon. His modern, fluid approach to skiwear, as well as his sleek designs, made from silky stretch fabric, was very modern compared to the fashions of that time. By the mid 1950s, Pucci was dressing stars like Sophia Loren and Marilyn Monroe. Pucci’s creations are known for their bright, bold patterns, and are instantly recognizable even today, whether on a scarf, blouse or dress.
