How Adobe Can Beat Apple And Transform Their Business

Apple will be releasing their AppStore for Desktops in early 2011 and this is a logical next step for their ‘walled garden’ approach to software. I only download applications from download.com or other trusted sites because the risks of malware are too great, so I’m certain this will be a great success for Mac users.

An AppStore for desktops will be very popular, given the success of the iPhone and iPad. But if Apple make this Mac-only (which they will), download.com will re-invent itself and offer a cross-platform alternative. And how hard would it be for Adobe to capitalise on their Air framework and create their own AppStore? Adobe have the perfect opportunity to create a cross-platform AppStore and completely revitalise their offering.
