Jaffa Cakes – Shoot and Win
I didn’t need much persuading to buy a pack of Jaffa Cakes as they’re my favourite biscuit, but their current ‘Shoot and Win’ promotion was also a good incentive. The pack said ‘log onto www.ilovejaffacakes.com and enter the last 4 digits of your barcode and the 4 digit pack time code located on the Best Before date panel of this pack.’ The competition used Flash for no reason, but there was a non-Flash version at www.ilovejaffacakes.com/comp-form.php, which was fine, apart from the Submit button being off-screen!
As well as collecting full postal details, the promotion also captured mobile numbers as mandatory fields. The strange thing here was that you could enter ‘NONE’ as your mobile number, which begged the question: why make this field mandatory? After submitting my data, I had to fill in a captcha and I was entered for the draw. I was quite surprised about the mechanic being a draw, probably because the naming of the promotion ‘Shoot and Win’ made me think it would be an Instant Win.
Because I entered from a multipack, I was given the chance of entering again. This was extremely strange because I was then forced to fill in all of my details again from scratch. It asked me to do this twice, and I was wondering if I’d entered an interminable loop, but it stopped after I’d entered 3 times. Surely the programmer could have automatically entered me 3 times without me having to complete my details each time!
