Glade – win a family trip to Lapland
Another chance to try a product I’ve never bought before. Who doesn’t like candlelight, especially in this gloomy weather? Glade’s marketing team have created an on-pack/online promotion to win a family trip to Lapland every week this winter. The instructions say “To discover instantly if you are a winner, simply go to www.glade.co.uk or www.glade.ie before the 31st December 2010 and type in your name, email address and the barcode found on this pack.”
So off I go, barcode in hand, only to discover I’m too early! The promotion doesn’t start till 29th October. Cleverly, Glade have anticipated this, and are offering a £500 free prize draw for the early birds. I’ll go back in a week’s time. The promotion is spoiled a little by the annoying, repetitive background music. Although there is an ‘off switch’, best practice is not to play music automatically on a web page. When I click the off switch, the music continues to play! Oh well, the room smells nice now.
Update 31 October 2010: I return to my pack a week later and go back to www.glade.co.uk. I enter the barcode into the form and get the instant message “Thank you for entering. Unfortunately, you aren’t a winner on this occasion.”
As this promotion focuses around the barcode, I used StickyBits on my iPhone to scan the barcode. I was the first to do it.
