What is a Digital Barcode?
A Digital Barcode is a barcode sent via email or SMS intended for scanning directly from the screen. An example is the one sent (in the form of a URL) to consumers’ mobiles by Kellogg’s as part of their 2010 ‘Square-licious‘ promotion. They called it a ‘digital voucher’, and claimed it could be redeemed at any participating outlet in the UK with a PayPoint terminal.
Barcodes in general are big news in Digital because they enable connections and communication between physical objects and the online world. They bring us one step closer to the ‘Internet of Things’.
