Win a Holiday with The Laughing Cow

Dec 04 2011

The Laughing Cow has a promotion to win a five star farm break. There’s a circular card inside the pack that further promotes the promotion and I’d expect the pack code to be on there, but it isn’t. The pack says to go to www.thelaughingcow.co.uk to enter but I completely mis-read it and go to www.thelaughingcow.com instead. Not sure if this is just me being absent-minded or if it’s a common error. The URLs are obviously very similar and in an ideal world the .com site would have a way of getting local markets back on track. Eventually I realise my error and go to the right website. The promotion sits in an iframe, which is also far from ideal as it makes sharing and SEO difficult. As the iframe is hosted on a 3rd party domain it weakens the brand-enforcement opportunities, which is a shame. The iframe itself has been spidered by Google and it’s clear that the page title hasn’t been properly considered: “The Laughing Cow – easishop” doesn’t tell a searching consumer anything valuable about why they should click on the link. These are details but they’re really not that hard to get right. As a result, the quickest way to enter the promotion is to go to easishop.com/the_laughing_cow/enter.htm. They’re only collecting your name and email address, without even requiring the user to accept terms and conditions, so the data collection opportunity has also been lost.
